QR Codes

We had a great iPad training on Friday morning! All 110+ teachers in our two elementary schools attended three sessions dedicated to the integration of iPads to enhance teaching and learning. It was exciting! Each session had a focus on integrating iPads in a different way. One session looked at those times when a teacher has just one iPad in his/her classroom. The second session focused on using small groups of iPads during your school day, while the third dealt with the use of the iPad cart, providing 1:1 iPads (for a short period of time). All three sessions went way beyond simply teaching "cool apps", to really asking the question: How can the use of these devices enhance teaching and learning?

One of the items I presented was the use of QR Codes in the classroom. I walked teachers through scanning the codes (using the Scan app on the iPad). We saw how the QR Code could be a link to a URL, a piece of text, contact information, etc.

Ideas generated for using these included: scavenger hunts, links to video book trailers (when posted on walls/displays, or taped inside the book), links to images of student art work, directions or quick links to websites, bookmarks or pamphlet additions that could replace long lines of text in URLs, and much more.

I shared the QR Code generator that I have used the most: http://qrcode.kaywa.com/ and we created a few QR Codes. There was a huge interest in using these from teachers of all ages.

Here are a few links and a video about QR Codes for those who want more information.

I would love to be your guide as you take this journey into using QR Codes in your classroom!!
